Presentation in Kate by Anne Currier and George Hrycun

27-06-2025 - 28-06-2025

Anne Currier and George Hrycun create individual artworks that explore associations that occur when images, textures, edges and shapes, light, and shadows interact to create ambiguous spatial and visual references. Currier’s ceramic sculptures are focused on the recessions and projections of interior and exterior spaces with a glazed surface that enhances a tactile experience. Hrycun’s drawings emphasize organic shapes and intricate details to express surreal narratives. Both artists share a commitment to craftsmanship and an appreciation for materials.

For this residency, the couple have chosen to make drawings and sculptures using piano roll paper as their primary medium. The piano rolls were found in flea markets near their home in western New York. Intrigued how to incorporate these rolls of paper into their artwork, Anne and George decided that the residency at AIR offered a unique opportunity to explore the possibilities.
