During the Phoney Island Fest, three art bridges will be unveiled, connecting the 'Nieuw en Meer' studio complex with Amsterdam Nieuw-West. This project, called 'Bridge Builders', is an initiative by three artists who have designed both physical and symbolic bridges. The opening will take place on September 7, 2024, and will be marked by a narrative walk along the bridges, led by artists Timon Tamminga and Roos Oomen.
The Phoney Island Fest offers a wide range of activities, including the exhibition 'Supernova' in the Kate pavilion, over 40 open studios, the Klein Kinder Fest, and live music performances during Jazz Bites in the Kantina. Visitors can continue to marvel at the diversity of art and creativity on the grounds.
Each of the three bridges embodies a unique vision. Maurice Bogaert views the bridge as a destination, a place for meeting others. Arjen Lancel created the 'Growth Bridge', inspired by fallen trees that continue to grow, forming their own biotope. Sander van Deurzen designed a playful bridge that connects the outside world with the creative worlds within the Nieuw en Meer complex.
